No one is illegal – oppose the “secure the borders” demo in Dover

antifascistnetwork's avatarAnti-Fascist Network

On Sunday 25th January fascists will gather in both Calais and Dover to “secure our borders”.

The Anti-Fascist Network are calling for a counter demonstration against the fascists and the border.

We call on all anti-fascists and anti-racists to join us on the day to stop the fascists and show solidarity with the people stuck in Calais, fleeing the horrors of war and imperialist intervention.

The dire situation in Calais has been in the news lately due to the deaths of 15 migrants trying to escape to Britain. The majority of people who reside in the so called “jungles” in Calais are fleeing areas of the world torn apart by conflict.

European countries are more than happy to plunder wealth and raw materials from around the world, through exploitation, expropriation and political interference, yet are never willing to take responsibility for the horrific social and economic fallout from their meddling.

Join us in Dover on the 25th, in solidarity…

Remember history, fight fascism!

Brighton Antifascists have been busy recently flyposting important message on the streets of Brighton. Here are some examples of posters that appeared recently in our communities:

March for Engerland decided to call it a day

kittyAfter yet another humiliating defeat on the streets of Brighton in April 2014, our regular visitors from “we are not racist, honest” March for England decided to call it a day and to organise their shambling procession somewhere else in 2015. We can only say well done to all those who contributed to this victory of humanity over primitive racism and nationalism of MFE and their allies on the far right. Perhaps Dave Smeeton found out, that next year he couldn’t count on a massive police presence to protect his knuckledragging racist mob from the antifascist protesters? After all during last three years MFE marched only because cops made it possible for them. Perhaps they also finally realised that nearly everybody in Brighton hates them and more and more people were going out on the streets to oppose them, whereas their own numbers were diminishing rapidly.

Here’s what Stop MFE had to say about it: https://stopmfe.wordpress.com/2014/09/17/march-for-england-to-leave-brighton-alone/

Antifascist responses to the Rotherham case

Recently Anti-Fascist Network (to which Brighton Antifascists are affiliated) published a statement about events in Rotherham, which is a good response to the far right trying to capitalise on the tragedy of abused children. You can read full text here:

Comrades at Brighton Anticapitalist Action also published a very good analysis of Rotherham case and far right’s double standards , definitely worth reading: http://brightonaca.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/something-aint-right-in-rotherham/

Going for Golding… (from Schnews)

The much heralded Britain First roadshow ain’t going too well. After being forced to cancel their Dartford meeting, Britain First were once again  humiliated tonight after another pathetic turnout, this time in nearby Swanley.

Fascists fail in Cricklewood (from Schnews)

(source: http://www.schnews.org.uk/stories/Fascists-fail-in-Cricklewood/ )

Last Saturday, the far-right group (and March for England regulars) “The South East Alliance” tried to march through Cricklewood in North London. Antifascists mobilised against them, with callouts from the Antifascist Network, the UAF and local Unions. Read the rest of this entry

With March for England just in two days we thought it would be a good idea to present few choice specimens that are likely to make an appearance during this charming event. Read the rest of this entry

St George’s Day: Brighton Anti-Fascists Remember Blair Peach

blairpeach_1543298cThirty-five years ago today, the National Front held its St George’s Day
election rally in Southall. The rally was a deliberately provocative. The
National Front had no electoral base in the area; they sought to intimidate
local people, especially the West London Asian community.

On that day, 23rd April 1979, Blair Peach was killed as he protested
against the presence of the National Front in Southall and their attempts
to stir up hatred in the area in which he lived. He was struck on the head
by a policeman in the Special Patrol Group. Taken to hospital with a
suspected fractured skull, he died in the evening. When the Coroner finally
released Blair Peach’s body, more than 10,000 people joined his funeral
procession.

The Cass Report, suppressed for thirty years, admits he was ‘almost
certainly’ killed by a police officer. His partner, Celia Stubbs, who has
campaigned for truth about his death, wrote: “Blair was not a martyr. He
was an anti-racist who responded to a request from the Southall community
to support them at a demonstration to show the National Front was not
welcome there.”
